Piggyback marketing Piggyback marketing

The following is from my blog, on Super Bowl Sunday. It’s a concept I call Piggyback Marketing where you take advantage of the buzz others create for special occasions. Millions and millions of dollars were spent on Super Bowl advertising in just a couple of days. Did you take advantage of the Super Bowl buzz?

The game itself is nothing compared to the commercials. In fact, how many of you remember the score of the game? Who played in the game? But I bet you remember the commercials from the game. And I bet you had at least one discussion about the commercials on Monday. That is called viral marketing, the most powerful and most effective marketing method there is.

Here’s my blog about the Super Bowl frenzie.

Today is Super Bowl XL and Super Bowl advertising is everywhere. Television is saturated with Super Bowl related ads and the game is still 8 hours away. Newspapers and magazines are full of ads. Supermarkets are full of Super Bowl specials. Even if you hate football, you have to know that the Super Bowl is happening. You’d have to be living in a cave to not see or hear an ad related to the Super Bowl. Today is the single biggest television event of the year and advertisers are paying $2.5 million for a 30 second commercial. Over 200 million people will be watching the game and commercials all over the world.

Are you doing any Super Bowl-related ads for your business? Why not? You could easily jump on the Super Bowl frenzied bandwagon. Even if you don’t sell anything related to the Super Bowl you can create some promotions that catch people’s eye. The words “Super Bowl” are in everyone’s mind right now thanks to the millions of dollars spent by other advertisers. Why not create a “Super Bowl” related ad for your business to take advantage of the groundwork they laid for you?

So you probably missed the Super Bowl opportunity but thanks to good old American business, there’s always a marketing event to tag along with. February gives us Valentines Day and Presidents Day, March gives us St. Patrick’s Day, April gives us tax day and so on. If you pay attention to the ads on television and in your newspaper, you’ll see that big business will create a marketing event for just about anything.

Why not take advantage of the marketing events the retailing giants are creating for you?
